The Outreach Program

Outreach: For years, Kay Austin proficiently headed this program sponsored by Fun and Fancy. Kay has recently retired and Jean McGoldrick has agreed to lead this troupe of dedicated entertainers. Groups and clubs, both in and out of Leisure World, use this service. Also organizations, housing those who need dependent care, call Jean and make arrangements for entertainment. There is no standard fee for this service, but generally a donation is made to Fun and Fancy. If you want information, call Jean at 301-438-2535. An audition is required before joining the troupe

"Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul." Plato 428BC – 348BC

While we're certain that Kay Austin never met Plato, she is in agreement with his words, and has demonstrated her devotion to music and dance by directing the Fun and fancy Outreach Program for the last 30 years.

Kay has organized troops of entertainers, similar to the concept of the USO. The Outreach Program entertains at nursing homes, senior centers, senior daycare, as well as various Mutuals within the gates of Leisure World. The group does not charge for this service, but, has been known to receive donations. The majority of the requests for entertainment are from venues that Kay has previously visited. In addition, she regularly receives requests from new sources. The group has entertained audiences of 225 attendees, and as few as 15. No matter the number, the entertainers bring much pleasure to the audience.

Kay generally has one rehearsal prior to a performance. Prior to that time, anyone wishing to join the group can call Kay and arrange for an audition at a rehearsal. She welcomes both singers, and dancers.

The majority of shows are performed during afternoon hours. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the audience, watching a senior recognize a song and sing along brings a wonderful feeling of satisfaction. We invite you to join Kay and the Outreach Performers.
