Fun & Fancy Notes 2/21/2012
by Phyllis Lovett
Monthly Shows: Because we produce entertainment each month, F&F performers are continuously auditioning for a future show. Some people who audition have performed professionally, and others - should have. Occasionally, we get a raw talent who has never tried the stage. This is our favorite scenario. That person is encouraged and often displays an ability previously unknown. The show theme is always different, depending upon the skills and desires of the director. Of course, performing is nothing unless we have an appreciative audience. Fortunately, we have the best! We need and welcome those who perform, those who work in the booth, those who support the cast with off-stage duties, and those who make up our special audience. For those who have not yet attended one of our monthly shows, the charge for non-members is $2 and there is an after-show gathering, with refreshments, in the Exercise Room. A 15 minute business meeting precedes the entertainment.
- Roses: To Jean McGoldrick for her Valentine show which featured all types of love songs. After the show, the audience was invited to our party room which had been beautifully decorated in a Valentine motif.
- March 7: Ken and Sally Tash, Michael Schwartz, Carol Fogel and Phyllis Lovett are combining their talents, and the making of a show has become a group effort. Now for those of you who know these individual personalities, I am sure that you are wondering who will be directing. Would you believe - all of us? The idea behind this program is to deliver the best pop music of our lifetime. You will be introduced to famous stars, singing and dancing as they often performed in Las Vegas. Thus we invite you to, "Las Vegas After Hours".
- April 4: Hannette Allen will be directing a reading of "Language Lessons". The audition is March 15, 7:00 PM, Clubhouse II. Rehearsals are March 29 and April 3, at 7:00 PM in Clubhouse II.
- May 2: Aileen Feldman will direct the audience in "Name That Tune".
Play in May: The Board selected the play that Joan Okin's committee recommended, called "You Can't Take It With You". Norma Ozur has directed this play before and also believes that it delivers well for both our audience and our performers. One of the facts that seemed most enticing to the Board was that the play has 18 parts which means that the memorization of dialogue will be almost equally shared by the cast. By the time you read this, auditions will be over and Michael Schwartz will be writing the next article and informing you of the cast.
Can You Help? We have a several needs:
- First, we are looking for someone who is willing to oversee the after-party shows. Lots of people are willing to help, but we need a leader.
- Second, we always welcome both homemade and store-bought donations of goodies. However, I must say that the walnut cake baked by Angela Bufalo, and the cranberry cookies baked by Sally Tash were absolutely delicious. Ladies, thank you so much. We placed them in the center of the table. Next time we'll mark them with the names of the donors.
- Third, Michael Schwartz and Phyllis Lovett have been writing the column for a long time and both feel that new blood would be beneficial. Please call Aileen or Michael if you can help in one of these areas.
