Fun & Fancy Notes 2/7/2012
by Mike Schwartz
Due to the quirks of the calendar, the Jean McGoldrick Valentine's show will have been presented by the time you read this. I trust you all enjoyed the results of the effort that Jean and her performers attached to their accomplishments.
February creates a series of auditions. Firstly, again, after the fact, the first audition/rehearsal for the Frank Sinatra program took place on February 2. Therefore, the second part of audition/rehearsal will take place February 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Clubhouse II. This novel Las Vegas review is a joint effort of Phyllis Lovett, Ken and Sally Tash, and Mike Schwartz. Vegas will come to Leisure World as a finished product on March 7 at 7:30 p.m., after our regular business meeting. Please attend and recommend us to your friends. Entertainment, as well as coffee and dessert occur monthly, nine times per year for only $8.00 in membership fees.
Joan Okin announced at our last Board meeting that the recommendation for the spring play is the classic comedy "You Can't Take It With You." Director Norma Ozur informed me that auditions for the endearing; large casted, but zany comedy will take place at Clubhouse II on February 13 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. Norma feels that early auditions are essential in order to match characters with personality and skills. There are 18 parts to fill, so please audition. The advantage of this is that roles are relatively short, with limited dialogue. You are definitely needed and those who are familiar with Norma are delighted that she is working with us. We still need off-stage volunteers, so don't be afraid to contact Rita Penn, Joan Okin or Mike Schwartz. Don't forget, auditions are February 13 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Clubhouse II. This will be the last edition of the LW News to carry these dates. Future editions will deal with performances. This year, four performances will take place at only $8.00 per show. To repeat, 18 parts for you actors and actresses to sink your teeth into.
Last but not least, in accordance with the F&F constitution, I have begun to appoint a nominating committee which will determine a slate of candidates to be presented at our April meeting. Further news about this process will be presented at our monthly meetings, as well as in print in this column. As we all know, time passes very quickly when an item of this importance is on the horizon.
